From October 17 to 20, 2024, Ocampo Expeditions had the pleasure of hosting two avid birders from China on a breathtaking 4-day journey through the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, one of the world’s most biodiverse regions.
Exploring Minca
Our adventure began in Minca, where the group explored lush rainforests teeming with life. Amidst this verdant setting, they were thrilled to spot several endemic species, including the Streak-capped Spinetail and the Black-throated Tody-Tyrant. The dense, vibrant forest provided a stunning backdrop for their first photos of Colombia’s unique birdlife.
Reserva El Dorado Magic
Our next destination, the Reserva El Dorado, brought exceptional moments as our guests captured incredible shots of the Santa Marta Parakeet and Santa Marta Tapaculo. Surrounded by spectacular green landscapes, each sighting offered a new discovery, and the group immersed themselves in the beauty and tranquility of this renowned reserve.
Cuchilla de San Lorenzo: The Grand Finale
The final stop at the Cuchilla de San Lorenzo provided breathtaking views and a chance to spot the elusive Santa Marta Antbird and Santa Marta Parakeet. With sweeping vistas and rare sightings, this last day was a perfect conclusion to an unforgettable birding experience.
This journey offered our guests not only remarkable sightings but also the opportunity to connect deeply with Colombia’s incredible biodiversity in one of its most spectacular settings. We are thrilled to have shared this experience with them and look forward to more adventures in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta!
